Home Office Furniture To Inspire Success

16th January, 2025 .
Things to consider when creating your home office:
  • Location
  • Furniture Sets
  • Standing Desks
  • Compact Work Spaces
Autumn Trends 2026

Do you work from home? So do 4 out of every 10 people! Whether you are a fan or not we can all agree the lack of commute is a major plus!

But how to ensure you can stay productive when remote working? Well the single biggest thing you can do is have a dedicated (distraction free) workspace.

Ditch the over-sofa laptop table, forget having to clear down your dining table workspace each night so you can eat dinner and lets get your ideal home office furniture set-up!

Location, Location, Location

Now whilst a dedicated home office may be beyond most of us with budget and space limitations, we need to think about the best of the rest.

Ideally, avoid setting up your home office in your own bedroom. You don’t want to blur the boundaries between relaxation and productivity. A spare bedroom is obviously ideal, guests are going to be needing it for evenings and weekends when you are (hopefully!) offline.

If you don’t have a spare bedroom then consider a low-traffic area where you can focus on your work without regular interruption. Whilst the corner of the living room or that space on the landing may feel ideal when half-term hits it may be sub-optimal!

If your eventual space is in a room you want for downtime then be sure to segregate the space.  Visual boundaries help maintain a clear separation between work and leisure – a rug or painted walls – pick a fun colour to boost your mood, we love Little Greene’s Giallo. Consider a screen too to be able to hide away work when you log-off and conversely, hide away your bedroom when you’re on a Teams call!

Now you have picked your location consider the lighting. Obviously natural light is best, but that can be in short supply in the kind of corners and spaces where home office spaces tend to be.

If your home office is a bit dingy then pick a good quality desk or standing lamp to ensure you are not straining your eyes – we love this retro desk lamp from Viking.

Finally, consider some fun touches to brighten your day and lift your mood when its been one of those days, one of these fun photo holders from Block Design, a scented candle or the perfect doodle journal

Set and Match

So now you’ve found the right space, it’s time to fill it with the right home office furniture. Consider what you need for your personal set-up; do you have confidential paperwork that needs to hidden away, or two monitors or maybe you need space for a pad of paper too?

Our general advise is to get the biggest desk you can fit in the space as you will always need more space than you think!

We’d recommend our Gent desk and pedestal drawer set which not only brings maximum working room (160cm of desk space!) but the wheelable drawers can be shunted under the desk at the end of the working day as a space saver. Ideal as a home office desk with drawers that gives extra flexibility!

Should you have room and want extra storage there is also a wide range of cabinets available in the Gent range for extra drawer space, space saving wall shelves and even tall shelving units!

Please be upstanding

How about a desk that could not only help improve your productivity but also reduce the  risks of obesity, developing lower back pain, poor circulation, and heart disease? All of these are associated with excessive sitting and the simple fix is to stand while working – aka using a standing desk.

If you want to make your space flexible then you actually want a sit-stand desk like our Motorised Height Adjustable Standing Desk.

Not only can you (at the click of a button!) move from sitting to standing but you can even make micro-adjustments to desk height ensuring your screens and keyboard are at the perfect height for you.

There is no need to compromise on space either, our sit stand desks have a generous 140cm width ideal for working from home with space for the obligatory cuppa and plate of biscuits!

Small but perfectly formed

But what if space is really limited? Then you’ll need to get creative…

Identify an underutilised area of your home maybe a built in wardrobe, awkward alcove, or under stair nook? Then think how you can turn this into a mini working from home space.

First things first you need a small desk we’d recommend a desk with drawers. After all if the space is small then none can be wasted. A single drawer will give space for laptop or paperwork to be hidden away at five. For extra storage space think vertically – wall shelves or units, wall hung organisers or pegboards are ideal. We especially love this colourful range of Pegboards from Block Design!

Your small computer desk can still be a multi-purpose space. If you need it Monday – Friday for the 9-5 it’s ideal as a teenager study desk or homework space in the evenings and weekends. A compact desk also has a final benefit – limited space means limited clutter, and as the saying goes, cluttered desk – cluttered mind!

Our top pick is the Malcolm desk and wall cabinet set not only does this convenient and compact 120cm computer desk have a built in cabinet and drawer but the separate wall unit can be used to add extra storage to your space!

Lets get to work

Your home office should be a space that works for you and works within your home. Whether you have a garden office with full furniture set, or are working in a compact home office squeezed in under the stairs.
